judging from the colors of ultra magnus, I'd say it's a screenshot of the trailer for the movie.

I believe there were animation tests done of some scenes from the movie where Ultra Maguns still had his original Diaclone colours and the final character models and style for the movie hadn't been set fully yet. If you've seen the Japanese trailer for the movie you'll see that particular Magnus, and a Kup and Arcee who are rather off model and with some shading styles not seen in the final film.

You are pretty much correct sir. That shot up there is from the extra long "trailer" that was presented to the execs at Sunbow to show what Shin was aiming for etc....

I actually prefer Magnus' diaclone colours. And alot of scenes in that trailer seem much more grim or moody.

Is there any chance that there will be a special edition where they will animate lost scenes and storyboards? There's potential there for a fantastic release if the will is there..

I very much doubt it.

We were all hoping IDW's 'amazing' TFTM adaptation was going to give us stuff like that. Didn't though. In fact, it gave us even less than the movie in most cases.

The only time there being "more" being when they nixed dialogue from the film in favor of pointless new lines that weren't needed, didn't impact as hard, and didn't quite win over readers.

it's definately diaclone, i picked up that video from blockbusters in 1985.

features galvatron, the triple changers and various car robots in colour schemes i didn't recognise. i seem to recall the constructicons being featured as heros.

Cool! S'all news to me! Smile When I first saw it, I honestly thought in some little slice of TF media there was perhaps a time Optimus had gotten himself some UM-type armor, given the colors.
