I'm hearing very good things about the comic; mostly from people who've been against the movie designs.
We can but hope the film similarly exceeds expectations.

I know that in other threads here I've said that I have been trying to avoid spoilers for the movie. I should preface my response to this peek at the prequel comic by clarifying that I do not wish to know of all the actual scenes and plot elements of the film so that I may actually experience the story unfolding as I watch the film, rather than sitting there saying "oh, here's the part where plot point happens, or this is where [character] does [action].
That being said, I don't see this prequel comic as a spoiler. Just wanted to clear that up before continuing...
From what I've read in these few pages, I love it so far. I think this is a good start for a reboot of the story and it has me interested in reading more. Granted it's only five pages, but it looks like it's setting up an interesting story and if the movie carries it out well then it could indeed be very compelling.
And, of course, Don's work is beautiful as always. _________________ <hr> | Michael Bay wrote: | | I had no idea Transformers would have so many fans around the world. |

Protectors of the "Allspark" Cube thingie. Explained in the story. The battle occuring turns out to be the one where Bee's ability to speak gets damaged, if memory serves. Might end up being a thing where he has to launch the Allspark into the cosmos to keep it safe from the Cons, then follows to safeguard it.
It almost would explain why he never regained the ability to speak...were it not for that magical instantaneous reformatting capability thang. _________________ <center>

The one with the wheel crossbow could be Arcee (no, not the pink jet one there) - it looks female, and she had a sorta crossbow-looking thing in Energon.
The other one could actually be based off that old Racthet design that started off as Inferno.
And those drones look more like Starscream than Starscream does... _________________

OK. So... I just bought escalation 4. my comic book guy said, "IDW was supposed to release something called 'Prime Directive,' but they apparently had some serious coloring problems and won't release it for at least another week."

Finally stopped by the comic shop yesterday evening. I need to go back and see if I have everything up to date (as usual) as they only had three issues waiting for me after all this time.
Anyhoo, the prequal comic wasn't all that bad at all. I rather liked it, and I have to say the more solidly drawn designs look worlds better than the bit-made renders in my opinion. Would have been a great aesthetic for, say, a long forgotten Cybertronian race in some fiction of prior. Might have to run with that idea in some fanfic or something.
However, with no ill will to the film itself in this statement, the Bumblebee cannot talk thing is dumb/stupid/ignorant/rediculous/bunk/dung/a mistake to perpetuate. Megs rips the arm off the no-longer-little-guy then crushes his neck....a little...not enough to pinch his head off....not even enough he cannot keep his head straight on his shoulders...
...
..yet while the arm is reattached (no shocker, robots yo, parts) the voicebox is beyond repair. Pff. I just find that dumb. Especially considering the supposed line or two at the end of the film.
It would have worked better if the story was that his arm wasn't ripped to shit, just his voice thingamajigger, and he had to rush off after the Allspark immediately, not allowing time to be repaired.
And the "eventually found other ways to communicate" bit where he "finally" tells the others of Megatron's shindig made me Laugh. Out. Loud.
Can they type/read?
Eh, big ass taint to an otherwise surprisingly decent book. _________________ <center>

the voicebox is beyond repair, yet he can play audio clips from the radio, but not his own voice? _________________

I hope you hopped behind the counter and kicked him in the shins.
As for the Dumblebee voice thing, I'd have thought they'd have inter-Autobot (and Decepticon) radio or something like an internal communications system. Such a thing existed in the comics so they could talk to each other in vehicle mode without it seeming like they were yelling to each other as they drove along (which would negate the usefulness of their disguises, obviously). Also, inter-Autobot (and Decepticon) radios were used in RID. So, if they can transmit their voices (or even just streams of data) to communicate, then losing a voicebox wouldn't be an issue when talking to fellow Transformers. Actually, when in vehicle mode, where does a Transformer's voice come from when talking to someone riding inside them (ooer)? Wouldn't that suggest two vocal systems? The alt mode speech can't still be coming out of the robot mode mouth, can it?
Really though, with a species that are fully mechanical and can reformat themselves on the fly, the excuse of something 'being beyond repair' is bollocks and lazy hack writing - especially when Bumblebee is able to reattach severed limbs with ease later on. _________________

Excellent point on the secondary vocalization ability there Bloke. ..indeed.
Also, just bringing this up, were there colors in the issues all of yall have seen, or just mine? Over at TFL the member nuopus seems to think Only registered users can see links on this forum! I know the majority of what he posts is merely to contrast the statements, facts, and points of those he's marked as Geewunner/Movie-haters, but in the way of Pre-Earth, what with toys and this comic, I'm seeing browns, grey, blue, silver, red, and the like. Is it just me? _________________ <center>
