Amazing. Surprised

With some tweaking, this would look perfect.

No G1 boxiness in live-action is possible you say?

Wrong.

Thats exactly how I would picture the movie!

With alittle more CG and alittle more money,... voila!

Now THAT'S a Transformer!!!

At first I thought it was going to be his VW Bug from several years ago. This was awesome, and just goes to show that the movie designs didn't have to be done that way.

Not bad. Looks cool.

IMO, lacks the visual flair that the ILM TF's have.

-edit- Before ya'll pounce on me, lemee explain.

A couple years ago, if you had shown me that and said 'this is what the Live Action TF movie will look like', I would have gone 'HELL YA! That's EXACTLY what I wanted! WOOOO!'.

But after seeing the visual orgasim of Bays TF's in motion, bringing the idea back from Sentient Aliens with Piloted Mech Designs (IE Diaclone) to actual sentient alien robot designs, it really doesn't seem to have the same flair for me. I love the complex as hell transformations, I love the broken up designs that incorporate every single part of the car, and I love the new 'not metal man, alienesque faces' look, because to me, it all brings it back to the primary point of Transformers: Sentient, Alien Robots in an Eternal War between Good and Evil.

Now, that isn't to say I couldn't live without better proportions for Starscream (though in recent shots he looks fine to me), no flames on Prime and a faceplate, and a white and red Ratchet, but really, all things considered, I far prefer the new incarnation of TF's to the original.

And if that makes me 'Not a True Fan' then the hell with it. I'll settle for being a fake fan and paramount plant.

I prefer Transformers to look like Transformers.

Not bastardise elements from a myriad of other films.

Anyway, yeah, this MSmith has created the best evidence yet that a strongly G1 aesthetic has no problems translating to live-action. It's funny, the design is boxy and yet it has no problems moving contrary to what so many unimaginative trolls said would happen if that style was used.

Abother thing I liked was that it looked complex while staying true to Transformers in style and look.

I actually agree with Fwiff here. It does look nice, but I actually prefer what I've seen from SOME of the movie stuff. Everything in this clip comes off too boxy and really does remind me of a toy, it lacks alot of subtle detail.

Mind you I'm no supporter of the movie designs, I just think that there's a better compromise than what we've seen

Somewhere in between would be nice, yeah. I like the complexity of the movie transformations -- I just don't like how kibble-fied the end result looks, if that makes sense. If they could transform with ILM's complexity, yet somehow manage to pull together a more solid-looking 'bot AND retain more visual cues from their G1 counterparts (i.e. -- Megatron still looks like Megatron, even if much more complex), I'd be satisfied.

But for a fan video, this is freakin' awesome. Looks better than some of the CGI in Spider-Man, anyway. Laughing

Of course, my butt could produce better CGI then Spider-Man. Laughing

Well obviously there would be more complexity and nuances in the final product. This is a one-man project after all, but he has the framework in place to show that G1 would be possible.

What, someone said it wasn't possible to do realistic G1 in live-action?

...

Oh, yeah. That's right. Rolling Eyes

If a lone fan can do THAT, imagine what ILM could've pulled off. Crying or Very sad

Exactly how I feel. So frustrating to see what was possible and they botched it. Also, MSmith said he's nearly finished a G1 Prime animation so that should be interesting..

If he uses the Masterpiece Prime as a reference, you'd have the G1 looks with a fairly complex transformation AND a high degree of mobility.

That could be very, very sweet. Cool

I suspect it will use a lot of the MP design with more detailed, robotic legs and joints (ie how movie Prime should have looked if Bay had any balls).

Not that it really needed to be reitereated any further, but yes indeed, this movie could have stayed true to the original design elements and STILL had an incredible look to it. If that is what a 2 man crew of amateurs could do, ILM with it's hundreds of animators could have done FAR better without the lame excuses.

The only people who didn't believe it, unfortunately, were the ones making the film.

As the famous "Bay-Vision" parody made clear, Mr. Michael Smith wouldn't have made it past the job interview.
