While bugging Chris Ryall, as my apparently pointlessly aspiring arse tends to do every few months, a note came up in mention.

Ryall reports that, "Evolutions, we have to hold off on any until early 2008 at least, per Hasbro (with the movie coming and all)."

So there goes any potential cybertronian elseworlds.

What does that leave though? For 2007, I mean. They've got this prequal thing, a Kup one shot, a Galvy one shot? (or was that '08?), that Megatron limited run, their ongoing Infiltration/Escalation/Whatever, Beast Wars profiles I think, and......?

Surely that's not enough TF stuff to fill a year? Not with a multi-TF-title-per-month Indie like IDW, right?

I wonder if there's to be more spotlights... Ironhide, for example. he's a classic badass. I mean, Soundwave, Kup, Galvatron, and that's it for spotlight wave 2? what about ideas spread around here? sunstreaker & Sideswipe, pre-BW-era-post-g1-era Ravage, dinobots 2 or 3 issue spotlight, on and on and on.

besides, i'm not convinced that they're capable of doing these 4-issue evolutions (which seems like it will be a re-do in a different time-period ever run).

Thing is, the Spotlights seem to focus on characters that aren't part of the main ongoing/at most show up later in the main tale. That would put Ironhide & the brothers out of the running at least.

I just think they need extend the run to what qualifies for a regular/full run of an arc these days, six issues.

Not that it matters.

*sigh* Sad

They have the TF movie adaption in June.... Hrm, maybe more movie tie-in stuff?

Like Movie Megatron: Origins, a 'This is happening at the same time as the movie on Cybertron'? An 'Immiditaly after? Movie-based Spotlights to flesh out some of the more underveloped ones? A gallery of movie Arcee pinups?

I know, I'm dreaming. Razz

There's that long list of questions IDW answered a short while back - that seemed to be pretty hefty. The Q&A is posted somewhere here, but I'm too lazy to go look for it.

Anyone?

Wasn't there mention of profile books? For Beast Wars and stuff?

Hi 'Blokie! Very Happy

Um...I didn't bother to look at what this thread is all about, I just wanted to say hi to you. Kinda like old times, eh?

Hello, Mr Melon Leopard.

The thread is wondering what IDW will be putting out over the year, as the pickings seem to be kinda slim.

But then those are only pickings for the first half of the year really.

The only gripe I've had with IDW's approach so far is that they're all over the place. I would have preferred one solid, ONGOING series as opposed to several miniseries and spin-offs.

My guess is that they're going the miniseries route with trade paperbacks in mind. And it's probably smarter to budget a miniseries vs. starting a monthly and wondering when/if the plug will be pulled and you'll have these unresolved story arcs (*cough* Dreamwave *cough*).

Oh, and my other big gripe is that they don't bump out Don Figueroa and Simon Furman so me an' Cov can take a stab at it. Twisted Evil

Other than THAT, good stuff. Wink

That's the thing, though. In their minds they do have a form of ongoing. Problem is it's as splintered as a cracked mirror. I know, I know, in the end you can follow it and that's their idea, but their main tale doesn't feel like one. What should be just a main title with a subtitled story arc at best is simply six issue sprints that you have to be in-the-know to know they're related.

You sit someone in front of a list of the titles IDW's done for Transformers and chances are the majority won't know Infiltration is the start of their main ongoing, nor is Escalation the continuation.

While I get the idea behind it, I don't care for the direction they went with their Spotlight one-shots. It's all more of that 'tying into the main book' stuff that you have to understand in order to catch, otherwise each Spotlight is just a cliffhanger that never answers its own questions.

Just bad form, really. Like with..

..that mentality, no doubt. TPB's just keep gaining popularity, don't they.

Other than their highly separated story arcs and tie-in one-shots, they haven't done all that much.

They've got the Generations thing going, which I think is nice what with its new cover art on decent old issues a good deal of old & new fans from the past two decades might not have caught onto yet.

They did Stormbringer, which is just another attached story arc to their "ongoing", suffering from the same separation trouble I might add.

Then what? Little Beast Wars? One Evolutions title? Am I missing anything?

Were that the case, seems another 'lack of confidence' on the property, which I've certainly had enough of recently.

I've been bitching for a while about their splintered storytelling methods.
